The Caring Place: For & About Patients
Since 1981, Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC) has had a record of distinction
as the major provider of health care to Morris Heights and the surrounding
areas. Born out of the local need for quality care, MHHC is a non-profit
organization funded by federal, state, and foundation grants as well as
private and corporate donors.
For over a quarter of a century, we've provided quality primary health
care services to all members of the community, including the medically,
socially, and economically disadvantaged. Our services range from medical
and dental services to counseling. Our health center has always been proud
to stand at the forefront in our local and medical communities.
This health center is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b,
and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n).
Morris Heights Health Center is recognized as a Level III Patient Centered
Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and
is accredited by the Joint Commission.

A Tradition of Innovation
We're a center marked by firsts and innovation:
- MHHC was the first federally funded community health center in New York
City to be accredited by the Joint Commission.
- The Women's Health & Birthing Pavilion (WHBP) was the first out-of-hospital,
midwifery-run childbearing center in a low-income community in the country.
WHBP went on to gain accreditation from the National Association of Childbearing
Centers. Although we no longer operate a birthing center, it remains one
of proudest legacies. WHBP gave rise to what is now the Women’s
Health Pavilion, one of our most robust programs, serving women throughout
- MHHC has provided on-site HIV / AIDS services since the beginning of the
AIDS epidemic. In recognition of our pioneering care, we were chosen to
be one of the three national pilot projects to demonstrate an integrated
centralized model of HIV / AIDS services, which is now replicated nationwide.
- Morris Heights Health Center is affiliated with the National Association
of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the Community Health Care Association
of New York State (CHCANYS).
