A Tradition of Innovation
  • We're a center marked by firsts and innovation:
  • MHHC was the first federally funded community health center in New York City to be accredited by the Joint Commission.
  • The Women's Health & Birthing Pavilion (WHBP) was the first out-of-hospital, midwifery-run childbearing center in a low-income community in the country. WHBP went on to gain accreditation from the National Association of Childbearing Centers. Although we no longer operate a birthing center, it remains one of proudest legacies. WHBP gave rise to what is now the Women’s Health Pavilion, one of our most robust programs, serving women throughout the Bronx.
  • MHHC has provided on-site HIV / AIDS services since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. In recognition of our pioneering care, we were chosen to be one of the three national pilot projects to demonstrate an integrated centralized model of HIV / AIDS services, which is now replicated nationwide.
  • MHHC is affiliated with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS).
