Medical Assistant

JOB SUMMARY

MHHC is seeking an energetic and experienced Medical Assistant to join out Medical Team. The medical assistant would perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the clinic operating optimally, and perform patient care activities focused on preparing the patient for the visit with the provider. Some clinical responsibilities may include such tasks as taking medical histories from patients, recording their vital signs, height and weight, chief medical complaint and preparing patients for examinations, and providing assistance during exams. The administrative duties include answering telephones, scheduling appointments, following up with patients regarding missed appointments and abnormal labs, updating patient medical records, obtaining information from hospital admissions and/or appointments with providers outside of this organization. In addition, the Medical Assistant would provide outstanding customer service as their interaction with the patient is an integral aspect of patient’s clinic experience.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform patient interview and intake.
  • Maintain proper hand hygiene and all other accepted infection control practices
  • Prepare exam rooms for clinical visit.
  • Obtain vital signs, recognize values out of normal range, and report abnormal findings to the RN, LPN or provider.
  • Collect specimens (urine, throat swabs, etc.).
  • Perform diagnostic testing including electrocardiograms, point of care testing, hearing and vision screening.
  • Participate in all fire drills and other safety education sessions.
  • Restock supply room and maintain need environment for supplies.
  • Obtain HIV and Bronx RHIO consents.
  • Maintain all patient care equipment and report any malfunction to the charge nurse, site director and head of purchasing.
  • Attend unit, department and special meetings as scheduled.
  • Comply with organizational dress code.
  • Maintain current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Contribute to excellent patient satisfaction by maintaining professional communication with patients, family members and colleague, and providing safe and quality care.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  1. Education: The candidate will have a high school degree or GED, and be a graduate of a NYS approved school/college for medical assistant studies.

  2. Experience: One (1) year Medical Assistant experience in Ambulatory setting is preferred.

  3. Interpersonal Skills: Possess proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills, and maintain professional communication and presence.

  4. Reasoning Ability: Possess time management and organizational skills. Able to define problems, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions. Able to interpret technical instructions in mathematical and diagram formats.

  5. Language Skills: Able to comprehend routine activities and problem-solve with assistance form supervisor, be able to speak, read, write and comprehend English.

  6. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, fractions and decimals.

  7. Physical Demands: The candidate needs to be able to walk, stand, and move, for a large part of the day. The medical assistant should be able to manipulate equipment, as well as lift and move objects, equipment and supplies. It is reasonable to anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds. Lifting up to 40-50 pounds may occasionally be required. The medical assistant may be expected to have sufficient manual dexterity in order to safely perform various skills and techniques. They would also be expected to have a level of visual and auditory acuity sufficient to meet the needs of their job tasks.   8. Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:

    1. American Heart Association Basic Life support (BLS) certified.

HIRING RATE

$21 - $22.17 per hour (based on experience)
