Family Medicine Practitioner

Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC) is looking for enthusiastic Family Medicine Physician to join the MHHC Family! This individual will provide comprehensive medical services for members of family, regardless of age or sex, on a continuing basis by performing the essential duties as listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides medical treatment and advice to patients of all groups, including prenatal intrapartum and postpartum care, and office gynecology. Elicits history, examines patients, order, performs and interpret laboratory and x-ray examinations, diagnoses and performs or order necessary treatment.
  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • The incumbent acts on his or her own judgment to provide medical services to individuals. This includes being on call evening hours and weekends.
  • Perform physical examination and obtains and records a patient and family health history.
  • Makes physical assessments, diagnosis and initiates plan for treatment including prescription medication as approved by existing state law.
  • Manages chronic health problems.
  • Interprets selected laboratory findings.
  • Provides emergency treatment as appropriate and necessary.
  • Performs under appropriate guidance procedures including but not limited to: Venipuncture, urinary bladder catheterization, nasogastric intubation, intravenous cut down, lumbar punctures, suture lacerations, various laboratory tests, records and interprets electrocardiograms.
  • Promotes continuity of patient care by relevant counseling guidance, health instruction follow-up visits or telephone contact.
  • Recognizes mental deviation from normal; initiates arrangements for treatment of psychiatric and psychosocial problems.
  • Establishes a collaborative relationship with referral physician where roles and responsibilities are clearly delineated and agreed upon
  • Participates in the development of protocols and performance improvement procedures.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Graduate from an approved medical college.

Completed internship and residency training from an approved medical facility.

Board certified or board eligible by specialty board.

EXPERIENCE

Two or more years of experience as a practitioner is preferred

Experience with an EMR and it’s implementation is preferred

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Facilitates teamwork at all times, addresses issues and concerns with a positive problem solving approach. Is approachable and cooperative.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. The ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas) scientific equation, graphs, musical notes, etc.) In its most difficult phases. Also, the ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Write speeches and articles using original or innovation techniques or style. Make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or broad of directors.

Ability to speak additional languages, particularly Spanish preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel a mouse or keyboard, standard writing utensil; and reach it with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

-Must have a valid New York State Registration

-Must have Infection Control certification by a State approved facility

-Must have current copy of DEA Certificate

-Must be registered for iStop through the Prescription Monitoring Program

-Must have CPR/BLS certification
