Verona Greenland is a Healthcare Executive with over 30 years executive leadership experience.   She is the Founder, President and CEO of the Morris Heights Health Center (MHHC)–a direct outgrowth of the Morris Heights Neighborhood Improvement Association movement–and the MHHC Foundation.

Ms. Greenland was the driving force in advancing MHHC from a small storefront medical facility, to a multi-site integrated health and social services organization serving over 60 thousand patient families annually, and employing over 425 individuals.  She has been credited with being at the forefront of the health center movement, developing innovative approaches and programs to address concerns such as: HIV/AIDS, Infant Mortality and Behavioral Health issues.  Her latest accomplishment is the construction and development of Harrison Circle, a $50M mixed-use facility, which provides 70 units of low income housing for seniors–one of the community’s most vulnerable groups–as well as expanded primary and specialty medical services.

Verona Greenland is renowned and well-respected for the depth of her integrity; exemplary service, extensive leadership which has contributed to advancing the Community Health Center movement both locally and nationally; and her unwavering dedication to the people of the Bronx and regions beyond.

Throughout the years, Ms. Greenland has served on Governor Mario Cuomo’s Task Force on Nutrition; HHS Secretary Donna Shalala’s Task Force on Infant Mortality; she has chaired and continues to actively serve on the boards of several State, national and local organizations including: Affinity Health Plan; Community Health Association of New York State (CHCANYS); Bronx Regional Health Information Organization (Bronx RHIO), Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy and The Perkins Advisory Council @ Bronx Community College, to name a few.  She has been recognized with numerous awards for her achievements, distinctive service, advocacy and ability to anticipate and respond to the health and social needs of the diverse communities served by Morris Heights Health Center.

In 2010, Ms. Greenland was recognized with MHHC’s first Legacy Award for her 30+ years of distinctive leadership and community service, as well as the 2010 National Association of Community Health Center’s (NACHC) Outstanding Achievement Award for Excellence in Leadership and Dedication to America’s Community Health Centers. Most recently, she was acclaimed as one of twenty-five Most Influential Bronx Women by the renowned Bronx Times publication.

Above all, after 30+ years, Verona Greenland maintains her quiet humility and steadfast commitment to her pledge to create ease of access to quality, affordable health and social services; to deliver excellent service in meeting the healthcare needs of all residents of the Bronx; to be a voice for the vulnerable, and a staunch proponent of social mobility for the diverse communities through the vehicle of Morris Heights Health Center — “The Caring Place.”
