Ms. Nitza Vera, MHHC & Bronx Community Advocate receives NYS Proclamation

We at MHHC have been honored to have Ms. Nitza Vera as a member of our MHHC Caring Place for over 23 years with her promoting our multitude of services, assisting in our community outreach efforts and supporting our growth.

Ms. Nitza Vera became Morris Heights Health Center’s, 1st Peer Advocate-Volunteer at The Counseling Center -behavioral health services located at the Harrison Circle site. Peer Advocacy is highly supported in the recovery model of care and seen as a best practice by NYS Office of Mental Health. Ms. Vera brought resources to our patients beyond the typical social services. She offered patients information about mental health, health, social services, education and free community activities to mention a few. Her support to clinical staff, keeping them up to date about services and advocacy programs has been has been endless. On June 17, 2016 we the community of Morris Heights Health Center, our patients, our Assembly Leaders, friends and family salute the person- Ms. Nitza Vera and give gratitude for all the lives she has touched in a positive and life changing way and wish her well as she trail blazes to her new home in Florida.
